15 May 2014

The Joint Graduate School in Biodiversity and Biosecurity's parent organisation, the Centre for Biodiversity and Biosecurity (CBB) is calling for applications for its 2014 funding round. Total funds available in 2014 is $50K.

Applications are due by Thursday 19th June at 5pm.

Applicants should fill in the CBB investment request form and email it to Carola Warner (c.warner@auckland.ac.nz).

Funding criteria

  • Criteria for awarding funding are based on the ability of the application to deliver on initiatives that address the four CBB strategic objective areas.  The 2014 funding round will particularly target the potential ability to increase external income for research and fostering new collaborations between University of Auckland and Landcare Research staff.

  • External partners may help support research; for example, by providing matching postgraduate stipend funds, project expenses and support in kind. Priority will be given to scholarship and project options that make use of matching fund opportunities.  Applicants are encouraged to talk to stakeholders such as Auckland Council, Department of Conservation and Ministry of Primary Industries.

  • Projects may start in 2014, but continue into 2015 as appropriate

  • All CBB staff (University of AUckland and Landcare Research) and CBB postgraduate students are eligible to apply.  The list of current CBB affiliated staff and students is on the Joint Graduate School in Biodiversity and Biosecurity website

Visit the Joint Graduate School in Biodiversity and Biosecurity website

Staff are self-nominated; if you would like to become affiliated please complete the enrolment form below and send to Carola Warner (c.warner@auckland.ac.nz).

  • Project cap: It is unlikely we will award more than $10K per project; smaller projects are preferred.

  • Limited to one application per CBB member (as PI) per year.

  • Salaries for permanent staff will not be funded.

  • A short (max 1 page) report will be required on outputs/outcomes, how it contributed to CBB strategic goals, and how the money was spent.
