Dr. James Russell wins 2012 Prime Minister's MacDiarmid emerging scientist prize

Dr. James Russell was presented with the Prime Minister's MacDiarmid Emerging Scientist Prize at a ceremony held in Wellington on Thursday.

Dr. Russell was awarded the prize for his conservation work, which uses ecology, statistics and genetics to prevent rats and other mammalian pests invading predator-free islands.

The prize included $200,000 to go towards further research that will continue to strengthen New Zealand's reputation as a world leader in island conservation.
